The Registered Master Builders Carters 2016 Apprentice of the Year will showcase the country's top apprentices from around the country.
Entries have now opened, with a prize pool worth more than $100,000.
Registered Master Builders Chief Executive David Kelly said he was looking forward to seeing the talent this year, and hoped the competition would raise the profile of apprenticeships.
"We are experiencing a real shortage of builders right now, with the industry calling out for more apprentices," he said.
"For the apprentices, the competition is a great way to launch their careers.
"They get to showcase their skills, challenge themselves, and meet others in the construction community. Competing sends a strong message to the industry, that you are one of the best," Mr Kelly said.
The 2015 Bay of Plenty Region Apprentice of the Year was won by Tauranga-based Jamie Russell.
