Nearly 3000 Bay people may be unable to vote in this year's local body elections after being removed from the electoral roll.
The Electoral Commission released figures showing 599 eligible people in the Western Bay of Plenty District and 2115 people in Tauranga City have been removed from the roll after their enrolment packs bounced back to the Registrar of Electors.
National manager of enrolment services Murray Wicks said 70,000 people throughout the country had been removed from the roll after they had moved house and not updated their enrolment details.
As the local body elections were held by postal vote, Mr Wicks said these people would be unable to vote if their details weren't updated by August 16.
"If you are one of the 70,000 or so voters whose pack has come back to us because you've moved house and not updated your enrolment details, you have been removed from the electoral roll and won't be able to vote unless you re-enrol."
