The first sod has been turned on the second, and final, stage of the Baypark to Bayfair project today.
The sod turning, officiated by Transport Minister Simon Bridges, will kick off a three year programme of roadworks to build two flyovers in Mount Maunganui.
The $120 million project is designed to ease congestion and provide better access to the Port of Tauranga on State Highway 2.
One flyover will take SH29A traffic over the railway line and the Baypark intersection. The other will take SH2 traffic up and over the Bayfair roundabout, at Girven Road.
The project began at the end of 2015. The first stage of work, earthworks and relocating the East Coast Main Trunk railway line, was completed in December last year.
