HIDDEN in the green pastures of Rangiuru is a derelict old house. The wallpaper is fading, the floorboards are cracking and there's no glass in the window frames.
It's not the ideal place to live but it's the perfect place for Tauranga band Enercia to practice until their hearts are content, day or night.
"It's on a kiwifruit orchard ... and it's where we keep our guitar amps and can make noise at all hours," lead vocalist Luke Tyrrell said.
"We don't get too many complaints," he said.
The five-piece band have spent the past year touring the North Island and have performed alongside New Zealand's Dane Rumble, These Four Walls, Ivy Lies, and UK-based band I Am Giant.
Enercia have been working on their second EP since August last year and are set to launch their four track album at Krazy Jacks at the end of this month.
Juggling band commitments with work and study can be tough but band members all agree music is something they're all passionate about. "It's not work when you're doing something you love," bass player Vaughan Tindall said.
"It's the best job in the world," Mr Tyrrell said.
Other band members are Matt Harvey on guitar, Ramon Crichton on drums and Jade Whiteman on second guitar.
Taking inspiration from bands such as Blindspott, Deftones and Seven Dust, Enercia's sound can be described as a new form of rock, Mr Tyrrell said.
"We've gone in the direction of a new sound. It's a collaboration of sounds that we've taken inspiration from bands we love."
Enercia are hosting a release party for their second EP, Change, at Krazy Jacks on the Strand, July 30, from 10pm.
