How nice is it when you go to a really cool entertainment place with your family in the Bay of Plenty and you're not slammed in the face upon arrival with a bunch of PC and annoying rules that stifle the fun!
That's what struck me first about Waimarino when I arrived there last weekend — sister, her fiance´, 20 month old, 4 month old and a bunch of bags and child admin in tow!
Don't get me wrong, there WERE rules, the 'greatest hits' explained by the friendly lady at reception, butthe rest were on the back of a pamphlet she handed out and which were around the rest of the park.
Their staff are super on to it. I almost broke a rule by getting on one of the pedal boats without a lifejacket and they called out to me to put one on. And THAT is what walking the line of letting people have maximum fun, but being safe and responsible, is all about. It was like taking a wee step back in time to how New Zealand used to be before it became a place that filled anything to do with water with rules that killed the fun and drowned your happiness.
We live on an island — we need to be free to have fun in the water!
