These guys don't know how to write a disappointingly average song. We Were Here is Turin Brakes' sixth studio album and although the duo evolve enough with each new album to keep things interesting, their core sound and their strength - distinctive vocals and vocal harmonies over a base of acoustic guitars - is always there. There is the odd digression along funky, bluesy, Americana and rock lines, but that jingle jangle keeps ringing through.
Opening track Time And Money is a laid-back, catchy number that'll have you hitting repeat, while Blindsided Again's impressive lead guitar work evokes the best in shoegaze psychaedelic rock. Turin Brakes are best at chillout music - their pinnacle is still their very chilled out second album, 2003's Ether Song - and the rain on Erase Everything links back nicely to Rain City from that album, while the warmth of Stop The World recalls early Pink Floyd or Elbow's Any Day Now.
All killer, no filler.
