Lillie Rohan is an Entertainment Writer for New Zealand’s Herald and host of It’s a Date podcast.
I’m Lillie, a writer, bad but enthusiastic dancer, and a geriatric Gen Z. Working for the NZ Herald never seemed realistic to me. Writing was always a hobby, never something I thought would earn me money until a job ad popped up in 2019. I showed my mum, and she immediately knew the Herald was my future. “Apply!” She said, “what have you got to lose?” Everything, I thought. It meant moving cities, saying goodbye to my home, my friends, everything I knew but if you’ve stepped out of your comfort zone before, you know it’s where the best stories occur. Now, the rest is history and I live in a Carrie Bradshaw, SATC-style fantasy hoping I too will be on the side of a bus one day. Just kidding… or am I? Working as an Entertainment Writer is the best job I’ve ever had. Not only because of the incredible people I meet - enter Robbie Williams - but it’s a job that allows a sense of escapism for people reading our stories. With the incredibly tough couple of years we have all had, entertainment and lifestyle news feels like the light and fluffy we need to get through the day and I’m so happy to be a part of it.
