CANBERRA - Australia's tax office has ruled that death has its benefits.
In a new ruling, the tax office said bosses who pay for employees' funerals should pay no tax on the funeral expenses. The tax office says a person must have "continuing existence" to be considered an employee for fringe benefits tax purposes. "Where the individual dies, they are no longer a person for the purposes of the Fringe Benefits Tax Assessment Act."
Employers pay tax for employee perks such as company cars or children's school fees.
