GREAT BRITAIN - A teenage babysitter who battered a two-year-old girl in his care to death was ordered to be detained for at least 15 years, Reuters reported.
Karl McCluney kicked, punched and bit Demi Leigh Mahon at her home in Salford last July, leaving her with 68 injuries and suffering brain damage.
After the attack, Demi Leigh was taken to hospital and her parents were at her bedside when her life support machine was switched off two days later.
The attack took place on the day of McCluney's 15th birthday, Reuters said.
McCluney, now 16, was convicted of Mahon's murder at Manchester Crown Court last month. He was sentenced to youth custody for life with a minimum of 15 years.
McCluney was reportedly upset at being made to babysit on his birthday, and took his rage out on the defenceless child.
The judge said the murder was "savage", the Press Association reported.
