Wanganui finished seventh in the national men's hockey tournament, scoring a good victory over Hawke's Bay on Saturday to reach that mark.
On Friday Wanganui's hopes of finishing higher ended with a 6-3 loss to Canterbury.
Star of the team was young striker Marty Atkinson, who scored half of the team's goals with 10 of 20, including four of the seven scored against Hawke's Bay and two of the three against Canterbury.
"That was a good effort from the young fellow," said coach Les Wilson.
Wilson rated Wanganui's effort as reasonable given the players available.
