Wanganui's best and brightest above the keel and under the sail canvas took part in the annual Wanganui Schools Sailing Championships on the Whanganui River on Wednesday.
Collegiate sailing master Richard Sutherland-Smith said conditions were ideal with a good breeze, sunshine and warmth, unlike what local sailors have found during much of the rest of the season.
Held at the Wanganui Sailing Club and competing on the lower reaches of the river, there were 11 boats taking part - seven from Collegiate and four from Wanganui High School.
There were four different classes of boats racing together - Laser, Splash, Starling and Topper - as each class has a handicap which adjusts the finishing times.
Because of the high tide, the boats were able to get through five races, with all the results counting towards the final positions.
