Wanganui Collegiate 1st XV made it two in a row in their national secondary schools season but not without paying the price in Hastings yesterday afternoon.
Playing a very capable Hastings Boys High, Collegiate scored six tries to run out 41-15 winners.
Coach Guy Lennox said with Andre Halbert unavailable, Jack Lupton took over at first-five and was having an excellent match until he suffered a broken leg 10 minutes into the second half.
"He was just in a ruck, it sounds like someone landed awkwardly and fell on it. Just a freak accident."
From a 27-5 advantage at halftime, Lennox said the game lost some structure in the latter stages with both teams putting on their replacements.
