Top Australian sidecar racer Stacy Sellar is "for sale" in his New Zealand appearances in the coming months.
Sellar, holder of the lap record around Wanganui's Cemetery Circuit, seems pretty much committed to coming again for the December 26 meeting this year ? and will also race at Pukekohe, Manfeild, Timaru and Ruapuna.
But Sellar comes at a price, it seems. He's willing to paint his 2005 LCR Suzuki in a New Zealand company corporate colour or livery and is also seeking some travel assistance from Wanganui race organisers.
Spokesman Ray Whitham says that's not unusual anyway, and that the sidecar racing at this coming meeting could be the best in many years because of the interest of Sellar, usual visitor Doug Chivas, and now interest from six-times world sidecar champion Steve Abbot (Britain).
Sellar is likely to be around 2sec quicker a lap than last year's dominant Chivas combination.
Abbot has been campaigning his machine in Australia, leaving the bike there between races while he travels back and forth between Australia and the United Kingdom. His "swinger" or rider, Jamie Briggs, is a previous visitor to the Cemetery Circuit meeting.
Whitham says around 14 sidecars have so far committed to the meeting, which has an emphasis on the classic grade in that event.
The Legends Lap of Honour will be ridden by former several-times world champion Hugh Anderson ? celebrating the 40th anniversary of the last time he won the world title.
Pro 7s: Wanganui's strong interest in the Toyo Tires Pro 7 series gained impetus after good efforts from several drivers in the weekend opening round in Taupo.
Phil Blythe is in fourth place overall after a fifth, third and seventh in the three races, the latter placing not helped when he was pushed back to the tail of the field by a mid-race skirmish.
Miles Fothergill is fifth after a fifth, sixth and seventh, youngster Cushla Whetton is a fine ninth, Stu Hewer is 10th (including a did not finish), and Bob Smith had a remarkable weekend in the Pro 7 Plus series.
He blew an engine on Saturday, pulled it out and returned to Wanganui on Saturday night to rebuild it ? he then left Wanganui at 3am Sunday, returned to Taupo, put the engine back in the car and raced.
And he finished fourth in one race. The next Pro 7 meeting is at Pukekohe on November 5-6.
