Whether they were astride their bikes or tinkering with them in the sheds, Wanganui City College riders made their presence known at the Manfeild Raceway this week.
The New Zealand Secondary Schools Mini Moto was held on Tuesday and Wednesday a competition for riders who have built and worked on their own bikes.
They could compete in various classes including air-cooled or water-cooled unmodifieds, Motard or off-road style bikes, water-cooled modifieds and sidecars. City College's Andrew O'Rourke won the air-cooled unmodified class for 73-84kg bikes.
With 20 entries in various classes, City College came third overall. In addition, City College's Kieran Whitham won the Best Built Bike Innovation Design award for his 70cc bike which was inspired by the iconic Britten motorcycle.
Thirteen schools were represented by competitors at the championships including City College, Wanganui Collegiate, Rangitikei College, Wanganui High School and Taihape Area School.
