As the exclusive New Zealand distributors of leading bike brand Trek, Cycle Sport NZ had created those openings for riders.
Cheatley, who also coached national teams for more than 20 years, said he gained a lot of satisfaction from supporting promising young riders, whether it be through sponsorship, coaching or simply mentoring them.
"We have been proud to be their launching pad if you like," Cheatley told the magazine.
"I was just thinking the other day of how many riders we have sponsored in one way or another and when you start writing them down on paper the list is huge.
"Right back from the days of Brian Fowler up to the current group including Hayden Roulston, Jesse Sergent and Sam Bewley and others. Along the way names like Gary Anderson, Scott Guyton, Julian Dean, Greg Henderson, Gordon McCauley, Michael Torkler, Paul Odin, Terenzo Bozzone, Heath Blackgrove and of course Cath Cheatley are just a few that come to mind," Cheatley said.
Cheatley doesn't do much coaching these days, that's over to sons Dayle (husband and coach of Cath Cheatley) and Bevan.
Cycle Sport NZ, with help from Trek International, also supported the New Zealand U23 based in Europe this season and will again in 2012 where they will ride the new Madone 5.2 bike. In other codes Anton Cooper has just been signed to join the Trek World Racing MTB Team alongside fellow Kiwi Justin Leov.
"It makes me proud," Cheatley said.
