Promising Wanganui cricketer Jessica Watkin has been given the thumbs up after a successful week playing in the national under-15 tournament.
Enjoying the benefit of being on home turf, 13-year-old Watkin was the only local player in the Central Districts representative side that won the tournament, held as part of Wanganui's three-week cricket festival.
CD senior player Esther Lanser - who, with Hinds team-mate Eimear Richardson, was on coaching and managing duties with the teenage talent - was impressed with Watkin's contribution. "She went really well and showed a lot of potential - and she was one of our younger girls," said Lanser, a Dutch international.
"She showed she could bat, bowl and field to a good standard - she made 50 against Northern Districts, took three wickets against Canterbury and took a great catch on the boundary in the last match against Taranaki."
For Watkin, it was her second stint with the rep team, making the side last season as a 12-year-old.
