Waimarino Primary School children will be flocking to Raetihi Showgrounds on Friday to tackle the second annual Waimarino Tough Kid competition.
Organiser Sport Whanganui said in May that the event was back after last year's success when more than 200 children gathered to compete in the 1.5km obstacle course challenge.
"While entries for schools are now closed, spectators are welcome to come along on the day to support the kids as they have fun and compete for 'toughest kid' and 'toughest school team' placings," Sport Whanganui events manager Rachel O'Connor said.
"Raetihi Volunteer Fire Brigade will be on-site providing kids with the extra thrill of getting a hose-down as they complete the course and the parent/teacher race that goes ahead just before prizegiving always proves popular."
Jane Welburn, principal of National Park School, which Sport Whanganui is this year partnering with to host the event, said: "We're delighted to be helping host the event this year and we're all very excited that it's coming to our region again. It means a lot to the kids to be able to take part, have fun and represent their schools in this way."
