Wanganui trainer Catherine Wilson was on the hunt for a new outfit yesterday in readiness for tomorrow's Gr 1 $250,000 Stoney Bridge Stakes (1600m) at Hastings.
Wilson hopes to be able to display it as one of the winning owners of Bulginbaah, who's gunning for his first group one prize in the second leg of the Hawke's Bay weight-for-age triple crown.
The eight-year-old was a fast-finishing second to Fritzy Boy in the Mudgway Stakes (1400m) on the first day at Hawke's Bay, and Wilson reports he's thrived since then.
"He galloped really nice this morning, and we're just really pleased with him," said Wilson, who co-owns and co-trains Bulginbaah with Ken Cropp. "He seems to be happy as."
It'll be the first time Bulginbaah has raced in the Stoney Bridge despite being nominated twice before, and he's likely to get a track to suit with more rain forecast in Hastings today and tomorrow.
Wilson said Bulginbaah loved racing and she was confident of another big run tomorrow.
"I think he's good enough, but he's drawn two and I just hope he doesn't get shuffled back and stuck in behind everything."
Chris Johnson will ride Bulginbaah, who has had two wins both in the Wanganui Stakes from six starts over 1600m.
Wilson was confident the step up from 1400m to 1600m wouldn't hurt Bulginbaah, especially if they went hard in front. She nominated Fritzy Boy, Nom De Jeur and Princess Coup as the horses to beat tomorrow.
"It's just the luck of the draw really, who gets the best run."
