Hot on the heels of a third third at the recent men's over 35 masters national squash doubles championships, Whanganui's only A1 graded player, Rod Bannister, won last weekend's Hawera Men's Open.
Bannister easily took the title with a comfortable 3-0 final victory over Taranaki's Jordan Linn, and was rarely tested over the weekend, beating two other top Taranaki players in the lead-up to the final.
Hawera has been a good hunting ground for Bannister, who has lost only one match there since first contesting the men's open in 1988.
He said he was happy with his form and, depending on fitness, will next contest the Central Open Masters title, which he has won for the past two years, at his home club in early August.
