EX-PAT Wanganui driver Earl Bamber gained wet and dry experience during the official pre-test of the Le Mans track on Sunday ahead of the 24-hour endurance race on June 13.
Bamber is a works driver for one of three Porsche hybrid teams tackling the time-honoured event.
His teammate and fellow Kiwi, Brendon Hartley, set the fastest lap time of the 67 cars that took part in Sunday's pre-test.
He lapped the circuit in 3m 21.06s during a dry period in the afternoon. This day provides the only opportunity to test on the 13.629km long Circuit de la Sarthe. More than 9km of the track is normally public roads.
In his first official outing in the Porsche 919 hybrid, Bamber and his car-19 teammates finished sixth in an action-packed six-hour race in Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, last month.
