The kids at Putiki Wharanui Kohanga Reo were so excited by their trip to Wellington Zoo last week they celebrated by painting their faces, some as their favourite animals.
Administrator Zoe Grammaticogiannis said the kids had been studying animals this term.
"The first half of the term we spent learning about jungle animals, the second half we looked at farm animals."
Lions and elephants were at the top of the kids wish list and the kids had been keenly waiting for the trip, as had a team of parents and school-aged children who were on holiday.
"We've got about 57 people going to Wellington in cars and buses," she said. "We try to have a trip once a term."
