Last week it was rain, this week it's the wind that could cause problems for Whanganui.
MetService has just issued a weather warning for gale force winds for much of the central and lower North Island, including Whanganui.
MetService said Whanganui can expect severe gales of up to 140km/h from Thursday evening until Friday morning.
MetService has also issued a lower-level weather watch for heavy rain that could affect the headwaters of the Whanganui River.
Widespread heavy rain and gales is forecast throughout most of the North Island until Thursday or Friday, as Cyclone Cook is expected to touch down over the Coromandel Peninsular or western Bay of Plenty on Thursday evening and heading south towards Wellington.
