"There are some great prizes to be won in the Aotearoa Bike Challenge and the weather forecast looks awesome so there's no excuse not to get on your bike," Mr Gruebsch said.
Three to 13-year-olds can take part in a fun series of events at the Kiwi Kids Bike Races on February 18, March 4 and March 18. The series, run by the Wanganui Mountain Bike Club, aims to help children build skills and confidence on bikes.
National Go By Bike Day happens on Wednesday, February 14. Between 7am and 9am, people travelling by bike can get a free pancake breakfast, plus fruit, water, tea or coffee, at the Cornmarket Reserve near Dublin St Bridge and have a free bike check by Green Bikes. Mr Gruebsch said the breakfast, organised by Whanganui BUG, would only be at the Cornmarket Reserve, unlike previous years when there had been several stations around the city.
There are a number of group rides during February. Themes include a clean-up ride, new places to ride, river ride around the four bridges and the ever-popular Frocks on Bikes.
Other activities include a bike maintenance workshop, the Rivercity Wheelrace Carnival at the velodrome and a Tri Whanganui event with short and long distances plus a fun run/walk.
