The 35th annual Wanganui Street Drags were a roaring success and organiser Raj Patel said he could not be happier.

Patel said a good time was had by all as powerful engines roared along Taupō Quay on Saturday, February 27.

"I am absolutely stoked," he said.

"I really think it was our best in 35 years and I want to thank the Taupō Quay businesses for allowing it to happen and the Whanganui community for making it such a success."

The Ivan Jones Memorial Trophy was awarded to Aaron "Woody" Wood and Steve Pugh took the prize for best presented car of the day, while Nelson Leota took the prize for best V8.

Mat Robinson was awarded the prize for fastest time of the day and David Hickford performed the best burnout.

Although Hickford's burnout was judged the best, Brad Rudkin attracted the crowd's attention by using the event to announce the imminent arrival of a baby boy with a blue smoke burnout.

The prizes no-one wanted to win went to Shelly Coles for slowest time (32.87) while Jordan Remakers took the hard luck award.
