The Whangarei District Council hasn't forgotten the generosity of Wanganui people and has donated $7500 to help victims of the floods that hit the city and district a fortnight ago.
Mayor Sheryl Mai called on Whangarei residents to help the flood victims of Wanganui in the same way the River City helped them in 2007 - by donating to that city's Mayoral Relief Fund.
Ms Mai said Wanganui contributed about $12,500 in August 2007 to Whangarei's relief fund established by then Mayor Pamela Peters, to assist those whose homes and livelihoods had been affected by these storms.
She said Wanganui people "dug deep into their pockets" to come up with $7500 and the Wanganui District Council chipped in with another $5000.
"The time has come to return that kindness now that the people of Wanganui are experiencing the aftermath of the largest flood ever recorded in the district."
