"I built contacts and absorbed the knowledge of some top New Zealand fashion photographers including Monty Adams, Fiona Quinn and Jackie Meiring."
Although photography was a passion, it wasn't always her chosen career.
Like many high school students, she stumbled around other options, originally wanting to become an architect. At school she "kept it flexible" - as well as art-based subjects, she also took graphic design, calculus, physics and English.
"Once photography became available as a subject in sixth form, I knew that was definitely the path for me. It was more free and experimental which I really enjoyed," Miss Broomhall said.
The achiever said school helped build her confidence and strong social skills. She started by practicing portrait shoots of her friends.
"In my last year of school I opened up a small business, HB Photography, in Whanganui. I started to shoot small jobs like couple shoots, a small wedding, baby photos, pets ... it gave me a tiny taste of the professional world."
After working in Auckland, she an even bigger leap, moving to London at the age of 19 to make her break and start shooting professionally.
There were continual challenges as she was an even smaller fish in a even bigger pond.
"I struggled to gain consistent work. London's a very expensive city to live in and being a young first-time freelancer in a place crawling with upcoming fashion photographers made it difficult to hold much work down.
"I was very tight with money for a long time, and had to spend a lot of time contacting people every day to make sure I stayed in their minds. After I started to build up contacts and hold down some clients it became a lot easier."
The first job Miss Broomhall landed was part-time at a big e-commerce studio in west London taking over from a photographer on leave.
"They handed me his clients which were huge UK department stores and big fashion brands and I almost drowned in the deep end with stress.
"But it was a good way to learn quickly and once I overcame the initial slog it became easy - it's now something I do on a daily basis without blinking."
It has been five-and-a-half years since she landed in London and she has built relationships with model agencies, magazines and photography studios.
Looking into the future, she will be looking to shoot campaigns for fashion and beauty companies in eye-catching locations around Britain and all over the world.
"I absolutely love beautiful locations, nature, and architecture - they all really inspire me.
"I can look at a beautiful location and a shoot story comes to mind. So getting paid to travel to amazing places and shoot in those kind of environments is my ultimate career goal."
Her advice to current students unsure of a career pathway is that the world is so open now that you can practically turn anything into a job.
"If you are stuck on a career path, then get a job anywhere - bar, supermarket, whatever and save money for a year. Use that money to travel and see some of the world ... let that inspire you."
