Sacha Ravn captured the mist which officially welcomed winter to Whanganui.

Sacha Ravn captured the mist which officially welcomed winter to Whanganui.

A chilly frost and sea mist settled over Whanganui yesterday morning for the official start of winter.

The overnight temperature dipped to 3C in Whanganui while parts of the country plummeted to below freezing.

Sacha Ravn climbed Durie Hill to capture these images of the city and river blanketed in mist while a snow-capped Ruapehu sits the on the Horizon ready for ski season.

Whanganui should be a little warmer and today is expected to be fine with some rain arriving on Sunday.
