Amorangi Rayner has gone strength to strength adding national titles and records to her already impressive weightlifting CV.
Representing Cullinane College, the 14-year-old has won the under-15 under-58kg women's class at the National Secondary School Championships on the North Shore, Auckland, at the weekend.
Rayner's first lift was a 54kg snatch, breaking the New Zealand record for the discipline. She followed that up with a 56kg snatch, bettering that record and a personal best.
Taking a big risk Rayner then attempted 60kg, but missed this lift. She secured a total by getting her first 62kg clean and jerk, missing the next two attempts at 65kg. However, her success in the first lift was enough for first place.
This success came hard on the heels of an impressive showing at the 2018 Oceania Weightlifting Championships in New Caledonia in July winning silver after breaking seven records, three of which she now owns.
