Straight A+ Whanganui UCOL student Aaron McGregor has won a scholarship to help him towards his goal of becoming a chartered accountant.
Seven Whanganui chartered accountant firms, in conjunction with their professional body Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand (CA ANZ), have provided a scholarship for a top business management student at UCOL.
Brent Hood, director of Spooner Hood & Redpath and chair of the Local Leadership Team of CA ANZ's Whanganui branch, presented the scholarship to McGregor (Ngā Rauru and Te Ātihaunui-A-Pāpārangi) at a ceremony last month.
"The aim of the scholarship is to support, reward and encourage those embarking on a career as a chartered accountant," Hood said.
"Aaron embodies the values of so many in the accounting profession, who not only strive for excellence in their work but also contribute their skills and expertise to community initiatives on a voluntary basis.
"Aaron is an exceptional student who received the highest ranking the evaluation committee can mark against the strict criteria. As well, it is clear that Aaron makes a difference to campus life and to his fellow students."
McGregor is currently studying for a Diploma in Business with the goal of becoming a chartered accountant with his own practice.
"I am humbled and honoured to receive this award," McGregor said.
"I've always loved numbers, and my studies in business and accounting complement my career in management and are an important step towards achieving my goal of completing a Bachelor of Commerce in Business and Management and eventually becoming a chartered accountant."
The scholarship is a collaboration between CA ANZ and accounting firms Barlow, Lendrum, Fitzgerald; Doyle & Associates; Kate Joblin & Co; Tait Pearce & Co; Moore Stephens Markhams; Spooner Hood & Redpath; and Silks Audit CA.
