Whanganui Police track down vehicle after reports of dangerous driving at Kai Iwi Beach

Police tracked down a vehicle being driven dangerously after calls from the public.

Whanganui Police have thanked the public for reporting a car being driven dangerously around the district.

Senior Sergeant Shayne Wainhouse said police were called to reports of a vehicle driving dangerously at Kai Iwi Beach on Sunday, February 18.

"The vehicle wasn't there when police arrived but we tracked it down to Morgan St beach at Castlecliff about an hour later after more reports from the public of dangerous driving," Mr Wainhouse said.

"Our patrol found the vehicle stuck in the sand and its two occupants were spoken to by police.

"Thanks to the public for bringing this matter to our attention. As a result, we were able to locate the vehicle and its occupants.

"We encourage people to contact us when they see this sort of behaviour."

In a separate incident, police are seeking information from the public after a blue Mazda Demio was stolen from Paterson St in Aramoho on Monday, February 19.

"The vehicle was driven to the Aramoho Rowing Club on Monday morning and left on the riverbank," Mr Wainhouse said.

"On Monday afternoon the vehicle was torched. We're interested in talking to anyone who may have seen the vehicle arriving on the riverbank."

Mr Wainhouse said Mazda Demios are a "vehicle of choice" for thieves nationwide because they do not have isolators and are easy to start.
