Injured in collision
A young woman received moderate injuries in a collision involving two cars and a truck on State Highway 1 at Bulls on Wednesday. The crash happened about 4.20pm near the intersection with Watson St, closing the road for about two hours. The woman was taken to Bulls Medical Centre. The cars had to be towed away, but the truck was still driveable. Police are investigating.
Empty car obstacle
Whanganui Police were called to Mt View Rd on Wednesday night after reports of an unoccupied car parked on the road, blocking one lane. Police are making inquiries about the incident.
Bid to save bees
Mitre 10 New Zealand will phase out products containing neonicotinoids in its 82 stores from November 1. Neonicotinoid substances are believed to contribute to the decline in bee health. There are now alternative products that do not pose the same risk to bees, CEO Neil Cowie says.
Whitebait warning
Forest & Bird says catching whitebait for sale needs to stop while four of the five native fish species are in danger of extinction. Until whitebait and their habitats are thriving, it makes no sense to allow companies to sell these fish for a profit, freshwater advocate Annabeth Cohen says.
