Fewer pokies
Whanganui has 12 fewer pokie machines after the amalgamation of its RSA and Cosmopolitan clubs.
Under a new Whanganui District Council gambling venues policy, the number in the new club was limited to no more than two-thirds of the number of machines the two clubs had when combined.
Each had 18 machines. The new Club Metro has 24, two thirds of that total. The gambling venues policy aims to limit harm from gambling, by ensuring the number of machines in the district is progressively reduced.
