A man facing one charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to injure and another of injuring with intent was granted bail in the Whanganui District Court.

Ashley Rawiri Damien Tamihana had six bail breaches to his name but was released from custody on Tuesday to spend time with his family over Christmas.

Tamihana had previously pleaded not guilty to both charges and will appear in court for trial on March 5.

Meanwhile, Reimaria Tawhati pleaded guilty to assaulting a child manually when she appeared in the district court last week.

Judge Stephanie Edwards convicted her and remanded her on bail for sentencing on February 14.
