Alcohol, cigarettes and cash were stolen from the Black Bull liquor store in Whanganui East when three robbers armed with a bat threatened a staff member.
A police spokewoman said the robbery happened at the Duncan St store at 7.40pm Wednesday. Three male offenders left on foot and headed south on Duncan St toward Wakefield St.
Store staff member Jaspreet Bhullar said he was working when three men came into the store. One was armed with a baseball bat and another with a hammer, he said.
They made off with about ten bottles of liquor, a quantity of cigarettes and cash. He said the value of the items stolen was "more than $500".
Bhullar told the Chronicle he was thankful there was no violence involved and that police arrived within five minutes of being called.
