The Family Violence and Law seminar held at St Paul's Church in Whanganui on Wednesday was a chance for community and government agencies to get together and hear about each other's work.
Organised by Whanganui Women's Refuge and Community Legal Advice Whanganui (CLAW), the seminar included speakers from Women's Refuge, Police, Ministry of Justice, CLAW and Solicitor Sarah Little.
Women's Refuge manager Jo, said the seminar was a hugely positive experience for everyone involved.
Refuge workers spoke of their experiences with women dealing with family violence issues.
Whanganui Police child protection team leader Marek Willis and family violence intervention officer Andy Reid spoke about their roles.
"We talked about police powers under the Family Violence Act which include police powers, protection orders, police safety orders, parenting orders and how police bail and court bail work," said Sergeant Reid.
