The Whanganui District Council's Long Term Plan 2018-2028, which signals an average 4.5 per cent rates rise this year, is open for public submissions.
Mayor Hamish McDouall said the plan signalled that the district needs to be ready for growth.
"And our long term plan looks at how we will be prepared to accommodate new businesses and enough homes for our residents," Mr McDouall said.
"If you have views on rates, Whanganui's port, climate change or recycling or you want to make suggestions about council amenities or services, it's really important you get involved with this consultation."
A consultation document that outlines key issues for inclusion in the long term plan is available on the council's website www.whanganui.govt.nz. Copies are available from the council building in Guyton St and at the Davis Central City, Gonville Café and mobile libraries.
