Whanganui crash victim name released

Whanau and friends pay their respects at the weekend's crash scene, Anzac Parade, Whanganui.

Police have named the man who died in a crash in Whanganui at 2.30am on Saturday.

He was 27-year-old Te Maramatanga Iwihora of Whanganui.

Police said they extend their sympathies to Mr Iwihora's whanau and friends and that the Serious Crash Unit investigation continues.

Mr Iwihora was killed when the car he was driving hit a tree at the intersection of Anzac Parade and Duncan Street.

Police say the crash, which was originally reported as being between two cars, involved only one car.

Mr Iwihora will be resting at Ratana Paa until his service there on Wednesday at 11am.

He will be interned at the Ratana urupa.
