There's a little something inside that gets super excited when I learn I get to review a ute ... there's just something special about them.

This week's review is an Isuzu D MAX LS 2WD — I have never driven an Isuzu before and I wasn't disappointed by the experience.

The interior of this ute is spacious and roomy — in fact, there is a considerable amount of room in the cab. I've found with some utes that looking over the bonnet is tricky — and I am by no way short — but here I had great vision and felt comfortable driving.

Isuzu have over 50 years of experience in development of utility vehicles and believe that they have redefined the category. So the D-Max combines power, technology and performance — and with a maximum torque of 430Nm and 130kW of power the performance is definitely there.

It drives so smoothly and Isuzu put this down to the roller rockers and a stainless steel cam chain.

Isuzu D-MAX also comes as standard with trailer sway control, a brilliant safety feature that works with the vehicle's electronic stability control to detect and helps correct trailer sway.

I didn't get a chance to tow anything, but I've been told that the Isuzu D-MAX can tow 3500 kilograms — easily — making it a great all round ute.

Safety is also something to consider and Isuzu have it covered. You have dual front, side and curtain airbags and the extra assurance of electronic stability control, traction control and brake assist.

The engine also has a built in immobiliser for extra piece of mind.

The Isuzu D-Max has a sporty look and feel to it, the exterior is a beautiful blue, and you have alloy wheels and a nudge bar to give it the extra bit of stance.

All the usual Bluetooth, cruise control and reversing camera are there, along with a well-designed cockpit that is very driver orientated.

Another bonus with this particular ute is that you pick up the remainder of the three-year warranty (or 100,000km, whichever comes first). Nothing like knowing you are covered for the next three years.
