Whanganui's Famous Plant Fair drew the crowds and raised almost $4000 for the local Anglican parish.

Lynne Gray, who along with Joy McGregor was the instigator of the fair, said in the past the Whanganui East parish had organised the fair but this year it was a combined effort by Whanganui's Anglican churches.

The fair was held at All Saints Hall in Moana St on Saturday.

"There's always a huge queue outside before we start and it's frantic for the first hour," Gray said.

"I don't know how many people we had but the hall was completely full.

"We always have a wonderful selection of tomatoes - heritage and modern varieties, different colours. The perennials are always popular too.

"The whole parish contributed. The fellowship of all the people helping was important. All the different churches got together and worked well together."

Nearly 30 people, representing Christ Church, St Oswald's, St John's, St Mary's and St Chad's, were involved with the fair, Gray said.

"It was very successful. We raised almost $4000 which is about the same as last time. The Archdeacon would like some of the money to go to the missions."
