What do you think they got right in the movie?
I saw it so long ago that I can't really remember it.
- Jessica Rodgers
They got quite a lot of things right but we have evolved differently from the way the film predicted. - Max Hughes
The cars are not quite there yet but hover boards have been invented. - Charissa Loader
We are learning to use magnetic fields like they did in the film. - Daniel Smith
Imagine if you were making a film set 25 years in the future...
What sort of transport will the characters use?
I would give them flying motorbikes. They would not be able to run on petrol, because I think all the petrol would have run out.- Ajah Kemp
There will be skyscrapers that reach the clouds and we will travel by monorail or teleport.
- Lucas Smith
There would still be cars, but they would run on a different fuel. Oil would be too hard to find - Jessica Rodgers
We will have jets that can travel in or out of the earth's atmosphere. - Daniel Smith
Cars would have no gears because the car would drive itself. There might be a steering wheel, but you wouldn't have to use it! The inside of the car would be really padded so that if you crash you don't get hurt.
- Hera Cribb
We will have robots to drive us and they will do the cooking and cleaning and walk the dog for us.- Charissa Loader
What will they wear?
Fabrics would all be waterproof, because clothes would have micro-chips inside them, so you could always be connected to wifi.
- Haileigh Richards
Self- fitting clothes - they will evolve and we won't need to worry about fashion because they will update themselves.
- Lucas Smith
Our clothes would be our technology. It would be like being your own wifi box all the time. - Angus Hasler
Bright coloured clothes to help keep predators away.
- Daniel Smith
I think coat hooks would have hands, so you just stand in front of them and they take your hat and coat off, and then hang them up.- Hera Cribb
Glowing clothes so that we can walk around and be seen and they will get brighter at night.
- Charissa Loader
What sort of technologies will they be using?
I think when we go on holiday in the future we might go to the moon. - Jahna MacDonald
I have heard that there is acid rain on Neptune so I think we could send all our rubbish there and it will be broken down.
- Daniel Smith
TV screens would be made of special stuff so you could just stick it to any wall and watch TV.
- Haileigh Richards
Children would not need to go to school, because they would be growing up surrounded by technology. They would just have lessons through the computer, or their house-bot would teach them.
- Angus Hasler
Scientists would be able to remake animals from the past, so birds and other things that had been extinct would be able to come back. - Ajah Kemp
I think NASA will have a well-established base on the moon by then, and robots will have taken most of the jobs. People would be able to make clones of themselves. - Jessica Rodgers
People living inside domes that would also be their transport and they would manufacture oxygen and grow plants inside them.
- Max Hughes
They would have blow-up houses that became solid once they were inflated so you could live in them. That way they could be built anywhere. - Hera Cribb
The last word goes to Jessica Rodgers of Okoia School who also had ideas about what might be happening in New Zealand 25 years in the future.
"I think fizzy drinks would be really expensive or banned altogether. Hamilton would become part of Auckland because they're building houses so quickly. Lots of our native birds like kiwis will be extinct by then. World War III would probably have happened."
Thank you to all the students who have participated in the polls - your responses have been enlightening and Chronicle readers have enjoyed reading your views on current events.
There will now be a break from polling until next year as it is time to turn our attention to high schools in the region and learn about what young leaders are planning for their futures.
Wanganui Girls' College leaders will be the first to feature next week and we will pick up the polls again in 2016.
