A landing at Upokongaro is critical to PS Waimarie's success on the Whanganui River.
Whanganui Riverboat Restoration and Navigation Trust chairman Chas Poynter says in his annual report that the previous landing's closure two Octobers ago has not been good for Waimarie operations.
"Many customers really enjoyed the opportunity to get ashore and interact with the attractions at Upokongaro."
He says the paddlesteamer is still missing out on half-tours. "We are constantly told by tour operators that until a landing is possible at Upokongaro again they have no business for us."
Mr Poynter says trustees are busily studying alternatives to QWest for a hull survey.
"The situation at QWest continues to worsen."
Last year's survey at QWest was cancelled when siltation meant the slip trolleys could not travel back far enough to accommodate the Waimarie.
"Fortunately the marine authorities agreed to extend our current survey after an underwater inspection was carried out at the wharf."
Highlights of the trust's year, according to Mr Poynter's report, included acquisition of MV Ongarue from the Department of Conservation and funding for the Riverboat Centre refurbishment.
He says the Waimarie remains Wanganui's main icon and No. 1 tourist attraction.
