A plan to merge urology surgery waiting lists with Midcentral Health Board aims to reduce wait time says Business Manager for Surgical Services Peter Wood-Bodley.
"Traditionally they have looked at the Whanganui list and Palmerston North list separately."
"What we've pushed for are those two lists will merge. That means people will be given priority based on need."
Urology surgery focuses on the urinary tract system and reproductive organs. This commonly involves surgery to remove cancerous tumours from the bladder or prostate. It can also involve the removal of kidney stones or other non-cancerous surgeries.
"The acute urology services are provided entirely out of Palmerston North and a portion of the elected urology services are provided out of and the rest are provided out of Whanganui," said Mr Wood-Bodley.
