Sunday is Mother's Day, which means time is ticking away for those last minute shoppers and Sunday plan-makers.

The Chronicle visited Upokongaro School on Friday to see what students had planned for their mums and what they were doing to celebrate.

Teacher of Year 2, 3 and 4 students Kirsten Norgate said they were getting ready to make some cards and Lizzajae Peeti, 7, was looking forward to it.

"I'm going to make my mum a card and in it I'm going to say 'I love you'," she said.

"I love her because she does my washing and my shoelaces."

Student response was mixed on whether mum would be getting breakfast in bed, but pancakes seemed to be the go-to for those that were planning to cook.

Amaia Matahaere-Ratana, 7, was not having a bar of telling the Chronicle what she got her mum.

"I already got my mum a present because she's the bestest mum ever, but I don't want to say in case she finds out," she said.

"We're going to make some cards in class, but I don't know what I'm going to write."

For those who have not made plans yet, or maybe let the date slip their mind, there are still a few options remaining.

The Jennian Homes Mother's Day 5km fun run/walk starts at 10am at Virginia Lake and is open to all ages with tickets at $25 for adults and $15 for children under 14.

If that is not your thing, you can book in at any one of Whanganui's restaurants and cafes, the Cosmopolitan club for example is taking bookings.
