Mavis Rink loves to wear blue, believes in caring well for herself and, until three months ago, was running her own house.
Mavis is 100 today and now lives at the Hikurangi Rest Home.
"It's a lovely cosy place," she said.
Only a few years ago, Mavis was still riding her bike into town from her Keith St home to do the shopping.
"I liked my bike a lot. I enjoyed riding it."
Mavis lived all her life in the Wanganui area. She was a local girl from Greatford, near Marton, and she married a Turakina boy. She had eight children, six girls and two boys.
"I was always very busy," she said.
She has 21 grandchildren, but Mavis said she can't quite remember how many great and great-great grandchildren there are these days.
"There's quite a lot of them, though."
And practically the whole clan is gathering next Saturday at the Eulogy Room at Wanganui Racecourse for a slap-up lunch and celebration for their wonderful girl who has turned 100.
Today, the big day, Mavis is being taken out to lunch with a few members of the family to the RSA.
Turning 100 a well-earned milestone for Mavis
