Trio set their sights on stardom

Rachel Hunter loves them and says they have puts the fire back into New Zealand's Got Talent.

Now The Black Trio - three cousins from Wanganui - are into the grand final of the TV One television talent quest on Sunday. They did it by receiving the most votes in last week's show as their reggae-funk song Take Her Home proved a winner with the TV audience at last Sunday night's semifinal.

The Black Trio - Kupe Renata, Quin McGregor and Toby Marshall - were the "wildcard" entry in the show, but the public's votes and the judges put them back into the competition.

They would like to say thank you to everyone who voted and supported them on their way to, hopefully, the grand prize of $100,000 and a Toyota Rav4.

Voting closed at midnight last night.

The three cousins from the Whanganui River formed a band and started busking together two years ago. They can be heard some Saturdays at the River Traders' Market in Wanganui.

Quin McGregor plays drums and percussion and lives in Wellington. He wants to become a professional musician. Guitarist Toby Marshall is a father of two, who busks while he is studying. Kupe Renata is a former college music relief teacher who now works for Telecom in Trafalgar Square.
