Firefighters were needed to help with the dramatic rescue of a horse trapped down a bank in Bulls.
The horse made its way out of its paddock some time before 4.50pm on Friday, slid about 15-20 metres down a bank, and became wedged among fallen trees.
"Some of them were quite big limbs," Bulls fire chief Brian Carter said, adding the horse had ended up straddling a fallen tree with its legs entangled in the branches.
They thought the horse must have been there 4-6 hours and had a vet tranquillise it before they tried to free it.
"She was thrashing away quite a bit for a wee while," Mr Carter said. The horse suffered several cuts under her belly but did not appear to be injured otherwise.
