Filling a niche and upskilling potential business leaders is the motivation behind a new programme set up by Wanganui private training establishment, Training For You.
It is an "emerging leaders" programme and the first of them is running from September to December.
Beryl Mouldey, the organisation's workplace training coordinator, saidthe programme was aimed at employees who demonstrated potential and needed help to develop their leadership style.
"The programme is pitched at people who are showing potential but are not at the high managerial level," Mrs Mouldey said.
"We've been really pleased how it has worked and have 18 people involved in this first programme. And we've got them from a wide variety of businesses including retail, manufacturing, processing, aged care, the trades and administration," she said.
The programme covered three specific topics - self-leadership, business basics and effective team leading.
Mrs Mouldey said self leadership was about identifying and building on an individual's strengths, teaching them how to be effective communicators and how to best utilise their time effectively.
Business basics focused on writing skills, managing email traffic, up-skilling them in Microsoft and Excel as well as teaching them about GST and profits.
She said team leading would give the participants the ability to communicate assertively, defuse challenging situations and show them how to develop high-performing teams.
