The two-day social enterprise expo, Thrive Whanganui, kicks off on Wednesday aiming to shake up the business world.
More than 200 people from all over the North Island will be at Wednesday's events at the Whanganui War Memorial Centre where the programme includes inspirational guest speakers and three expert panels talking about how to run a successful business with its heart in the right place.
Social enterprises aim to make money and have positive social, environmental and cultural impacts, with profits going back into the venture to further the cause.
And the organisers are pushing their environmental credentials aiming for a zero-waste, plastic-free event.
To that end, attendees will each receive a reusable cotton bag made by inmates of Kaitoke prison and known as Inside Out bags.
