A fishing boat rescued three people who were caught in a rip off Kai Iwi Beach yesterday.
Wanganui police said the two men aged 47 and 17 and a women were about 300 metres offshore when the recreational fishing boat picked them up.
Police had been notified at 3pm and the Coastguard Write Price rescue boat was dispatched to the area where it met the fishing boat, took the rescued trio on board and took them back to Castlecliff.
One of the men was transported to Wanganui Hospital where he was treated for mild hypothermia.
Constable Blair Ruby praised the efforts of all rescuers involved.
