Through the events, $14,500 was raised for the Westpac Trust Helicopter, $16,500 for the I Am Hope Foundation and $24,800 for the Ruapehu Whanganui Rural Support Trust.
“Jeff’s dedication has not only brought the community together, but has also delivered life-changing support to organisations that serve all of Aotearoa,” Ruapehu Mayor Weston Kirton said.
Hall also contributes to the next generation, actively supporting Matiere School and coaching junior rugby teams.
“He is a true role model,” Kirton said.
Donna Journeaux received the Waimarino-Waiouru Citizen Award for her “unwavering commitment” to the community.
Journeaux has served as both a trustee and treasurer for the Raetihi Promotions Charitable Trust. As a part of this, she has been the project manager for the Raetihi Gutbuster.
The Gutbuster is a fundraising event for the Raetihi Promotions Charitable Trust, offering participants the options of a 50km bike ride, a half-marathon or a 5km fun run.
Journeaux also contributed to the Makotuku River Walkway, Kirton said.
“Donna’s vision and determination transformed the Makotuku River Walkway into a stunning 4.1km track planted with native species, featuring sculptures from local artists which she also helped raise funds for.”
She also helped revitalise the Mangaeturoa School property.
The school was closed in 1982, but thanks to Journeaux and the efforts of the Mangaeturoa School Revitalisation Project committee, there is now a refurbished bus shelter, a functional swimming pool, a tennis court and an outdoor kitchen.
“Donna’s countless hours of volunteer work have left an enduring legacy in Raetihi and inspired others to get involved,” Kirton said.
“Donna and Jeff exemplify the best of our community – people who see opportunities to improve the lives of others and dedicate themselves to making it happen.
“Their tireless efforts remind us of the power of community and the importance of giving back.”
